One of the projects I worked on at Trinsic was an internal library for enabling end-to-end encryption using passkeys. While developing it, I had to dive deep into the WebAuthn spec. The experience got me really excited about passkeys and their potential to improve authentication. I was so excited, in fact, that I made my first conference talk all about it.
In hindsight, I’m not as excited about the WebAuthn spec as I was when I gave that talk. I no longer see passkeys as a silver bullet for auth—quite the opposite, actually. Still, I’m proud of the talk and the lessons I learned while preparing for it.
